About

Sue John is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, with a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art Printmaking. She first joined Glasgow Women’s Library (GWL) as a volunteer and is now part of the Senior Management Team. Her remit includes enterprise and strategic development and providing strong leadership to a dedicated and dynamic staff team. She is passionate about reading, literature, books and the positive role that the arts can play in transforming people's lives for the better.  

Summary of work

Glasgow Women's Library is unique in Scotland and the only Accredited Museum dedicated to women's history in the UK, as well as being a designated 'Recognised Collection of National Significance'. It is a multi-award winning organisation that now occupies a vital place in Scotland's cultural ecology, playing a leading role in promoting women's contributions to Scotland. Open to all, GWL works across Scotland delivering fresh, seasonal, multi-faceted programmes of public events to diverse audiences, collaborating regularly with emerging and established writers and other partners in the literature, cultural, arts, heritage and equalities sectors.

Glasgow Women’s Library is a unique, highly respected, professional and multi-award winning organisation with an ambitious vision and clear aims. With new Strategic Aims in place to take the organisation beyond 2020, GWL wants to extend its reach beyond Scotland, particularly with international partnerships, to explore the best in innovation and new thinking about libraries, archives and museums as change makers with the values of equality, diversity and inclusion at their core.
