About

I work for Literature Wales, the National Company responsible for the development of literature in Wales as the Head of the Tŷ·Newydd Writing Centre in north Wales. I have published Welsh-language novels for young adults, but now prefer reading novels to writing them!  After studying Welsh literature and language in Aberystwyth University, I'm lucky to have found the perfect job - observing and organising literary events and workshops.

Summary of work

I work at Tŷ·Newydd, the National Writing Centre of Wales. Established in 1990, thousands of aspiring and emerging writers have since passed through our iconic teal front door. We specialise in residential creative writing courses and retreats, and cover many genres including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, scriptwriting, nature writing, illustrating, storytelling, yoga and more. I organise the annual programme of open courses, and courses for schools; and oversee the smooth running of the centre from day to day. I am also part of Literature Wales’ Senior Management Team.

Summary of work to develop

I am interested in experimenting with digital and technological infrastructures for our writing courses, and subsequently trial a few digital workshops. I’m also interested in how we can use technology in keeping touch with our participants, and to continue to help with their development after they leave our centre.

Also, as a bilingual establishment, we’d be interested in collaborating with other minority language based centres and establishments, looking at translation as a theme.

One of my ambitions is to increase the number of Welsh writers who can tutor at Tŷ· Newydd by continue to foster skills and confidence within the Welsh writing community. I would love to see more participants of our writing courses return as tutors and readers, to come full circle in our writer development programme. I would also love to see some of our authors teaching elsewhere, and getting opportunities across the UK and beyond.
